Dear Members,
The summer heat continued into August this year. Heat indices were above 100 and often above 105. Riding all day long was brutal and dangerous.
Even with the heat, the Gateway Ducati Owners Group continued riding and meeting activities this month. Our monthly meeting was held on August 3, 2010 at Nick and Elena's Pizzeria. There were 12 people in attendance. Joining us that evening were Pete Hall and Mark Oldham from Moto Europa, the new Ducati/Triumph dealer in St. Louis. Pete emphasized that they are hoping to open the dealership in the middle of September. They hope to build a European Motorsporting community in St. Louis that is as robust as the US motorcycle community. They are looking forward to working with the club and believe they can assist us in obtaining factory recognition.
The group ride was done early on Saturday morning, the 7th of August. The ride ended near noon and it was almost too late from a heat perspective. On Sunday, the 8th, I organized a second ride, where 4 people showed up. We also got off the road early to avoid the heat. Both rides had all riders return safely.
After a ride held on Sunday, the 22nd, I received a phone call from Fred Hecker. He apparently decided to test out the effectiveness of his protective gear. He low-sided on some gravel. A separated shoulder is all that occurred. We are glad that he is well. His bike did not do as well as Fred did. We wish the two of them a speedy recovery. Bulent and Andrew were on the ride and finished unscathed.
Remember, elections are next meeting. FYI- my guiding star has given the nod for me to continue in my current role for the next year if the club wishes.
Please remember that MotoGP is this weekend. Those of us attending, please have fun and return safely.
Next months activities are as follows:
Group ride: September 4- details to be announced
Meeting: September 7 at 6:30PM. We will hold the meeting at A'mis restaurant at 6:30PM. Remember, this is our election meeting.
Sincerely,
Gary Kwawer
President and Chief Communicator
